On the morning of July 17, 2020, at the Westline School, Santhor Mok Branch, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed along with the announcement of the tuition fee payment service through mobile banking services of Westline Education Group (WEG), a large, well-known educational institution, in partnership with Phillip Bank Plc, one of the largest banks in Cambodia. The intention is to simplify payment transactions of students and parents through mobile banking (Phillip Mobile), in line with the most current technology.

Mr. Pech Bolen, CEO of Westline Education Group, said at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Westline Education Group and Phillip Bank on the morning of July 17 at Westline School, Santhor Mok Branch, that the purpose of this collaboration is not only to improve the quality of payments or payments via mobile banking, but both companies are also considering the idea of modernising the digital education system with new technologies in line with future developments.

Mr. Pech Bolen added that payment transactions were time consuming, causing parents and students to wait for long periods of time. On the other hand, he noticed that it was not convenient for parents to carry cash and pay the school. This required taking precautions, worrying travel safety, loss of risk of loss and other risks. The operational staff in charge of receiving money needed to spend a lot of time to handle the transactions. In this era of technological advancement, he had been looking for a new partner to jointly develop, which he found in Phillip Bank. Next, Mr Bolen said “Westline and Phillip Bank had cooperated and our staff and the two institutions are looking forward to working together from now on. This also means bringing their children to study under special conditions. These were considerations for students and parents and would result in easing all the difficulties and reducing the amount of time spent on transactions so that parents could use this time to complete other tasks.

Mr. Chan Mach, CEO of Phillip Bank said that “Currently, the banking sector is developing rapidly, especially in technology. Seeing the need for more technology and contributing to the betterment of the banking sector in Cambodia, Phillip Bank had been actively involved, especially after the final merger with KREDIT Microfinance Institution in early January 2020. Through branches and ATMs operating throughout Cambodia (89 branches in 20 cities and provinces), the Bank had made it stress-free for its customers to access on-demand banking services.

Mr. Chan Mach added that Phillip Bank is pleased to partner with Westline Education Group (WEG), a major educational institution, in launching a mobile payment service from Phillip Bank. Following the signing ceremony, students at the Westline and the Northline Schools will be able to pay their tuition fees through Phillip Mobile with confidence and security without having to be physically on school grounds and waiting for a long time, thereby saving time. In addition, to celebrate the launch of this tuition payment program, the first 500 customers will receive a $5 cashback on their first tuition payment through Phillip Mobile and the 501th and subsequent customers will receive a $2 refund.
